2023-2024 Outreach

Along with the FRC team MA Bears 766 and the FTC Team 4345 (from Aragon), we attended Robots on Ice at Yerba Buena for our last 2023-2024 outreach event! We set up a small table there and also drove ForTEAsimo around the ice skating rink, racing MA Bears a few times too. We had a great time bonding with fellow teams and meeting other robotics enthusiasts there!​

During Open House, we let incoming freshmen into the Makerspace to promote the team, showcasing ForTEAsimo (the robot), handing out flyers and stickers, and answering any of their questions. We also advertised our upcoming Robot Reveal, which was happening in a couple of days.

Every year, Mills hosts an 8th Grade Night to allow eighth graders from local middle schools and their parents to tour our school's campus. Like in 2022, we had our Makerspace open for that night, giving out information about the team to the families and handing out pins and stickers. Similar to the Taylor Welcome Back International Potluck, this event was a way for us to garner interest in the team for middle schoolers who'll soon come to Mills!

For Taylor Middle School's first week back, they held a potluck celebrating different foods from all the diverse cultures of their students. At our table there, we gave out free stickers and information on the team. We also showcased our 2023 robot TEA-Rex later on in the event. Getting Taylor students interested in the Boba Bots was especially important this year, as we restarted our Taylor Robotics program that November. More generally, as most Taylor students do enter Mills as high schoolers later on, this was also a way to recruit possible future Boba Bots members.

​At this event, we set up a table at one of Taylor PTA's pancake breakfasts to promote Taylor Robotics. We had the LEGO robots from the program running at our table, demonstrating how they completed challenges on the FLL field (which is similar to a board game mat). The attending Taylor middle schoolers and their families interacted with our booth, and several students expressed interest in the team.

At Millbrae's Lunar New Year Festival for 2024, our booth's main focus was on showcasing the work of the members of Taylor Robotics. Each of the Taylor Robotics' teams had their LEGO robot present as well as a trifold board which explained their design and thought process. We also gave out free pins, including some which had a special and exclusive Lunar New Year design! As per usual, we also sold merch, gave out team information, and had TEA-Rex, our 2023 robot, with us. Though the event was cut short due to rain, we had a great time and promoted Taylor Robotics to many parents and kids!

Along with other Mills clubs, the Boba Bots recruited new members at 2023-2024 school year's Club Fair. To gather interest in potential recruits, we showcased T-Rex, gave a presentation, and handed out pins and stickers. From this event, we got a lot of people to sign up and come to rotationals, our first official meeting for new members five days later!

At the annual Millbrae Art and Wine Festival, which we attend every year, the Boba Bots had our first outreach event of the school year! There, we sold the event's glassware and drink tokens at our booth, along with some of our t-shirts, hoodies, and stickers. We also had our 2023 robot TEA-Rex next to our stand. As one of Millbrae's most popular events, the Art and Wine Festival helps us greatly in spreading the word about our team, and we had a great time that weekend!
